Media Language and Public Consciousness: Influence, Trends and Outcomes
Main Article Content
Abstract
Human beings are essentially social creatures whose sense of organization and curiosity has continuously driven the progress of civilization. The tendency to live in organized groups connects them to collective life, cooperation, and social order, leading to the development of institutions such as family, society, and the state. It is through the balance of these two tendencies that the sustainable development of human society has been made possible. Questions such as “why,” “how,” and “what” form the foundation of the pursuit of knowledge, the expansion of experience, and innovation. As a result of this inquisitive nature, diverse fields such
as science, philosophy, art, literature, and communication have evolved. It would not be an exaggeration to call the contemporary era the “Media Age.” Print, electronic, and digital media have influenced almost every aspect of human life. Today, media is not merely a carrier of information but has become a powerful institution that shapes society’s thinking, perspectives, values and behaviour. The
most powerful and decisive link of this influential institution is language. Through language, media selects events, gives them meaning, sets priorities, and shapes public thoughts, emotions, and responses. Therefore, the form, style, and vocabulary of the language used in media have a deep and long-lasting impact on public consciousness.
