Abstract

This paper attempts a thematic study of the recent Booker Internatonal Winner Heart Lamp by Banu Mushtaq as a scathing attack on oppression and marginalisation of Muslim women. In these collection of twelve stories, Mushtaq gives voice to the burning but often unheard life stories of Muslim women in South India. They are textured exploration of gender and power dynamics. The paper aims
to analyze these selected stories not just as a criticism of patriarchy and oppression but as stories of sisterhood and resilience.
